July 31st is National Avocado Day! So we wanted to share some fun, yet informative facts about avocados and another nutritious smoothie recipe using VEGAMN Cinnamon Roll! Keep reading to see why you should be incorporating avocado into your diet and an easy way to do so!
Did you know that avocados are actually classified as a fruit! Avocados are grown on a tree called Persea americana. Beyond being a fruit, avocados are also considered to be a superfood!
This basically means that they are exceptionally nutrient dense, which is ideal for our bodies! In fact, there are over 20 different vitamins and minerals in an avocado such as vitamin K, folate, vitamin C, potassium, and vitamin B6! In fact, there’s more potassium in an avocado than bananas!
Some people stray away from avocados because they claim that they are “too high in fat.” However, the fat within this fruit is oleic acid, which is a monounsaturated fat. These types of fats are found in plant based foods and are actually considered to be healthy.
Monounsaturated fats are highly recommended in our daily food consumption because they may help reduce “bad” (LDL) cholesterol and increase “good” (HDL) cholesterol. Healthier cholesterol levels further promote heart and cardiovascular health! In addition, avocados are loaded with fiber, which improves gastrointestinal health.
On top of their nutritional value, avocados are incredibly versatile! You can implement them into virtually any meal as a healthy fat source. One of my favorite ways to incorporate avocados into my daily diet is by adding them into a smoothie. The consistency of the avocado makes your protein shakes thick and creamy, yet you can barely taste it!
